We had the best custom trip with Dropstone Outfitting! From the incredible guides to the amazing food, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Maggie, Bryn, Meg, and Roy made the entire adventure unforgettable—they were knowledgeable, organized, and so much fun to be around. Every detail was thoughtfully handled, from the route planning to the camp setup, which allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the beauty of the backcountry. If you’re looking for a truly seamless and memorable wilderness experience, I can’t recommend Dropstone enough. We came away with not only stunning memories, but also a deep appreciation for the care and expertise their team brings to every trip.

I attended a stock-supported backpacking trip into the Scapegoat Wilderness with Dropstone in July 2023. The group was simply amazing. Never before have I eaten so well in the backcountry! Yve, Bryn, Russ, Roy and Violet were incredible. 5 stars feels like an understatement. I would definitely recommend and most definitely would go on a trip with them again. Thanks Yve and the whole crew for an absolutely amazing experience!

Just completed the Circus Creek Guided Archery Hunt and the Dropstone Team hit it out of the ballpark on this trip. I've been DIY archery elk hunting in Colorado the last few years so I didn't know for sure what to expect...but I had a great time, learned from the guides, enjoyed the company of everyone in camp and harvested a bull. The accommodations are more than adequate, the food was excellent and the scenery was beautiful. While the elevation in the hunt area may not be extreme the steepness of the terrain will test your physical and mental toughness. Expect several thousand feet of elevation gain and loss while chasing bugles on this hunt. It was a lot of fun. Thanks to Maggie and Yve for running such a great operation and going above and beyond in customer service, to Russ for his knowledge of the area and unreal hiking ability, to Jarod for being the best grouse guide a guy could ask for and to Johnny for being with me while I harvested my 1st elk. As a team we covered a lot of miles to find elk and stay on elk. This group along with my fellow hunters made this a trip of a lifetime. Thanks again.

We had the most wonderful trip. We did a four night stay, on our own, with an 11 mile hike into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The trip was well organized, all of our questions were answered, the hike and campsite were exactly as we expected. The staff was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I would do another adventure with Dropstone Outfitting in a heartbeat! So much fun!!!

Dropstone’s owners and staff have more knowledge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and more expertise moving people and gear through it, than you could believe. For clients this means a fantastic experience, each trip tailored to the desires of a given group, at a given time of year, in a given area. Truly excellent. The desserts alone deserve five stars!

The best way to see the Bob Marshall Wilderness is with Dropstone Outfitting (DO). DO planned a perfect adventure (Rocky Mtn Front Traverse June 2019) for a 62 year old woman who had not camped out or hiked extensively in years. The stock-supported trip enabled me to get back into the real wilderness without stressing about the weight of my backpack or dreading 6 days of freezed-dried food. The trip maximized the hikers' experience of the Wilderness with daily moderately strenuous hikes of 5 to 7 miles across beautiful high meadows filled with wildflowers followed by delicious home-cooked meals around a camp stove. Our guides, Yve, Maggie, Allie, Eva, and our special nature guide, Eric, were knowledgeable, super-competent, and just plain good company. I would follow the Dropstone women anywhere (and hope that it is to a place as beautiful as The Bob). I unconditionally recommend Dropstone Outfitting to anyone who seeks a real backwoods hiking and camping experience in a landscape that will take your breathe away.

I wholeheartedly recommend Dropstone outfitting: Maggie, Bonnie, Bryn, Elizabeth and Justin are not only friendly, humorous and competent, but they are also very good at accommodating a variety of hiking skills and speed. From those more inclined to study flora, birds, geology, etc to those who want a work out and peak climbing, I think all were happy to have Dropstone staff who shared their interests and drive and accommodated each person's pursuit. I found their combined knowledge of Bob Marshall Wilderness literature, natural history, trails, geography, flora and fauna to be very impressive. Thank-you all for one of my all-time favorite trips!

I have traveled twice with these folks, each time for a week outing. Maggie and Yve could not be more capable, informed, helpful, organized, and delightful guides and companions. Our first trip was a customized trip to Scapegoat Mountain for a week in July 2015 with 6 guests. The second trip was 5 days along the Front in June 2016 with 10 guests. Their knowledge of the wilderness areas is exceptional. The love they have for what they do is contagious. Please be assured that choosing them is the wisest choice even if this is your first time into the Bob Marshall wilderness complex.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dropstone Outfitting!!! Their professional trips promote immersion in remote wilderness environments where clients participate in hiking, wildlife watching, swimming mountain lakes, exploring geology formations, photography, storytelling about old timers, or just plain enjoying solitude. Food is healthy, delicious, and plentiful. Safety is always foremost in all activity. I especially like the options offered on layover days – extra hiking and exploring to climb those higher trails and peaks or just hanging out in camp and enjoying the beauty of wilderness. Dropstone Outfitting’s knowledge of and love for the wilderness make their trips truly unique and memorable.

After two wilderness trips with Dropstone, I am looking forward to a third! This is a premier experience for those who like to hike and absorb some of the wildest country in Montana while enjoying great camp food and good company.

The Dropstone team is the epitome of what outfitting should be. They deliver an in-depth learning experience, while operating in a sustainable manner and making certain you have everything you need while exploring one of the greatest wilderness areas in the world. To top it all off, their team is a blast to be around. Did I mention that the meals are different every night and all of them delicious? Can’t wait to do another trip!

The concept behind Dropstone is spot-on and Maggie, Yve, and their crew do it just right. I can’t imagine a company being more enjoyable to explore the Bob with.

I had one of the best weeks of my year on my Dropstone trip.  The itinerary was incredible, the food delicious, and the guides took great care of us.  I would not and could not have done this trip on my own and I am so grateful for your business and philosophy in support of a minimal impact on wilderness areas.
