Explore the wild and remote Badger Two-Medicine country. This 10-day backpacking adventure takes you off-trail along the Continental Divide and through the heart of the Badger, discovering first-hand why permanent protection for this special and rugged landscape is so important. The route includes hiking along the divide, climbing peaks such as Bull Shoe Mountain (8006′) and Spotted Eagle (8054′), and immersing yourself in true backcountry solitude.
The Badger-Two Medicine is a place of wonder. It is not part of Glacier National Park or the Bob Marshall Wilderness, but it is every bit (or more) as stunning, untamed, and off-the-beaten track. It has great cultural significance to the Blackfeet and sits at a juncture between the Bob, Glacier, and the Blackfeet Nation. The area has experienced political and physical changes in recent years, including controversy over old oil and gas leases (the last lease was retired in 2023 – hooray!) and land management. Motorized travel ceased in 2009 and it is had several medium scale forest fires in the recent years.
Our annual backpacking trip is the longest, most strenuous but also adventurous and remote trip we offer. The route is point-to-point and includes one food drop and three layover days. While all but a few travel days on are on-trail, expect downfall and snow patches. There are a few off-trail travel days and all of the peak climbs are off trail, so familiarity with hiking and backpacking off-trail are necessary.
If you are looking to really experience the wild, to push yourself, and to explore the Badger-Two Medicine country in-depth, then this is the trip for you.
